Dear parents,
If you have a child with special needs there is a Special Needs Group in Dundalk run by parents of children with special needs that may be helpful to you and to your family. Special Needs Active Parents (S.N.A.P.) is the name of the group. It was established in 2004 by a group of parents to provide better services for children with special needs in County Louth and to support each other. Although it was initially aimed at parents of children in the Early Intervention Programme in County Louth it is open to all parents with children of all needs. S.N.A.P. is a registered charity: CHY 16356.
There are a lot of activities for parents and children, therapies, training and help from families in the same position as you. Everyone is welcome to join and there is a small membership fee of €20. The group has their own premises in Lios Dubh not far from the Lisdoo on the Armagh Road, which is the base for some of the activities.
Overall they are a local charity providing activities for happy families in County Louth. (see www.snapireland.net or see Facebook SNAP Louth). You can download an application form from the website by clicking Membership Form in the Browse column of the webpage and click on SNAP New Membership Form Louth. Pdf. Once you are joined up a member of the administration team will add you to the facebook page that is a closed group. The address on the application form has not been updated on the website so please amend this for postage to the address below.
Alternatively you can ring the group directly on 086 394 0056 / 086 840 5216 or post your membership fee to the address below. Please be mindful that volunteers run the group and as many members work full time you may have to leave a voice message and a member of S.N.A.P. will return your call at their earliest convenience.
Other parents have told us that they have found it very beneficial to be part of such a group.
