Following yesterday's announcement by cabinet, our mainstream classes will remain closed. Distance learning will begin again on Monday 11th January for all pupils in mainstream classes and teachers of these classes will be in touch via email/class dojo before the weekend to advise of book collection times and pick up points.
Junior classes (Junior Infants - 2nd Class) book collection is scheduled for Monday 11th January. Senior classes (3rd Class - 6th Class) book collection is scheduled for Tuesday 12th January. Exercises posted for completion by pupils on Monday will not require the text books.
Since September, we have invested in a full Seesaw license to optimise our online capabilities should this very scenario arise again. All classes were advised to maintain a focus on online work (side by side with face to face learning) during term one so that children would be familiar and confident in this space.
Many of our teaching staff are (like you) parents of children in primary and secondary schools. We see the challenges from both sides of the fence and face the same struggles ensuring our children's engagement with online learning. Many of us juggle these efforts with our working commitments. We do not underestimate the level of effort involved. However, we must all remain positive and upbeat and make the very best fist of this that we can. Hopefully, a quick turnaround will be seen and we will all get back to the place we all, without exception want to be .... at school.
Please check for a teacher email/class dojo message before the weekend.
I wish you all well over the coming weeks and look forward to welcoming our ASD classes back on Monday. This will not be without its challenges in maintaining a staff team on the ground amidst isolation measures etc.
Please God it will go well.
Take care. Stay safe.
Mr. Mc Caul
